Making math too fun to resist

This is an incredible book- really more of an activity center. My three year old absolutely loves it and the paper engineering is gorgeous. The book consists of many pages of pop-up illustrations and countless cards to explore different facets of numbers, shapes and introductory time skills. Text for adults gives suggestions on how to use the materials. My son adores the number stencils and especially the "pop-up die"- it pops into a 3" cube. It goes along with the simplest board game ever invented. You roll the die, and move your animal game-piece that number of spaces. Then the animals can come in "first", "second", or "third". There are countless cards: colored shapes to arrange into designs, and 2-D vs 3-D shapes too. Some cards have numbers 1-10, or domino dots to count. You can sort them into order, or use them for elementary equation excercises too. There are rudimentary counting games. For example, the two lilly pads. There are three frogs on one pad, move one to the other pad and two remain. For more advancved children there are sets of basic equations presented as a sort of pop-up book slide rule. There is also a cool teaching clock- as you rotate the hour hand, each number turns from white to red, the digital clock read-out shows below too. There are cards with the days of the week, and with pictured activities that occur at different times of the day. There is even a section with number rhymes to learn. This book is exciting and fun for my three year old and will continue to provide him with challanges as he grows and learns. I can't believe it...what a deal.

Great Reference Book

I bought this book for my ninth grader who was taking honor geometry. This reference provides the steps to the solution not just answers. Several instances where my son was stuck on a specific problem, cannot seem to go to the next homework assignment. Using this answer key, he understood the thinking process, applied it to others and able to move forward. He also used it to ensure he correctly worked others. Since homework is graded on completion, not on how many problems were correctly worked, having this reference does not annotate cheating. The back of the school book has answers to the odd problems. This reference provides all solutions. Having this book is close to having a tutor sitting next to you when you are doing homework, but lots cheaper.

One reviewer stated that it's a waste of money when you can ask your teacher. Don't get me wrong, my son's math teacher is great and very responsive in answering questions, email or otherwise. However, immediate communications when my son is stuck on a problem while doing his homework is unreasonable expectation. When my son has a string of problems to do, able to sit down on concentrate on completing problems, having correct method to work challenging problems through immediately, helps in allowing continued concentration and helps him to understand concepts fully and quickly. Waiting for an answer, whether it be several hours or the next day fragments that concentration. Understanding the concept on his own, albeit with assistance of this guide, gave him the confident that he can independently worked through concepts, not having to have his teacher to hold his hand every steps of the way. There were still many instances where he needed assistance from his teacher. But this reference allowed him to work more problems on his own.

I would highly recommend this reference book.

This book was not what I needed, I was looking for a solutions manual, something that would show how the problems were solved, this book only had the answers for the odd number question and only the answers to the those question, it was the same as the back of the text book. Not what I was looking for.

One of the most influential books during my studies

I ordered this book off of Amazon at the suggestion of my existential-phenomenological professor. At the time, I did not know what to expect. What I encountered was a rich, beautiful, love letter to philologist Nietzsche. Being a fan of Nietzsche, I enjoyed this rather sensual and turbulent text. I would suggest this book to students of philosophy, psychology, or those that simply enjoy rich poetic lyricism.

While there is so much talk about Irigaray's lack of understanding of Neitzsche, it is obvious that previous reviewers have a lack of understanding of Irigaray. Her inquiries are focused around language and how it is used. Her analysis is nothing short of detailed. "Man-hating" it is not, patriarchy-hating it is, what is more this book draws attention to the language that perpetuates patriarchal society and the damage it does to women, but also to men.

A must read for any parent, teacher, practitioner or person experiencing anxiety, stress or just feeling odd and "not fitting in".

It has helped change my life as a parent with a child who has struggled all her life as a "highly sensitive person.": We have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on specialist, all coming up with different diagnosis, all diagreeing upon "what is wrong with my daughter," and medicating her without true understanding of her as a person, as a consequence, only worsening her condition and state of mind. This book will give you answers and just as importantly, it will give you hope. I highly recommend it to all my friends and anyone who reads this review.

SPD + Psychopathology - A Winning Combination

As a psychotherapist and an adult with SPD, I really found Heller's latest book to be especially meaningful. Few - if any - texts deal with SPD and psychopathology, which is so common - especially in adults who were diagnosed with SPD later in life. The cases she presents feel intimate, and are helpful for comparison. She also integrates some occupational therapeutic ideas and techniques, which are already proving helpful for me. An interesting read for SPDers of all ages!

It's okay

Some stories are not so bad. Others...well I found them boring. Perhaps I was expecting something more. Definitely I will never turn on with a gay trying to have straight sex with a woman (The Challenge story).
Frankly, I started to read fast but now my speed have slow down... And I don't know if I will finish it. Sorry..

Some stories were better than others, while some I couldn't believe I read it. Maybe if they were longer and had a chance to develop, I would like it better. Still most of the stories themselves, I just do not see a hope for a quality read.
